I suggest that you define a new Node template that has the appearance and behavior that you want.
Add it to your diagram’s Diagram.nodeTemplateMap, and on the node data object in the model, set the “category” property to the template name that you used.
Many of the samples make use of multiple templates. Some of them even do so with the purpose of defining a “conditional” node with a diamond shape.
